I have recently started shooting some smoke images. I am fascinated by the patterns, both natural and the ones that are possible to create with the smoke images. Here is one:

This is an old church, from the mid-1800s, near East Fork Lake.

Shot at tv 160, av f/8 at 400 iso in program mode, 2/3 under exposed to get the clouds. In Photoshop I brought up the contrast using NIK Color Efex, then saturation, ran some smoothing filter, then re-sharpened the black channel.

The following image was shot down the street from my house at Miami Meadows Park. A nice small lake sits on the far side of the park, this was shot on the far side, looking toward the ball fields near sundown.

To achieve the effect I wanted I used a manual setting of ISO 100, tv/200, av/f11 for a larger depth of field. This darkened the foreground so I used an on camera fill flash to get it where I wanted. Once in Photoshop I bumped up the contrast and levels then boosted the saturation in the clouds and reflection.

After some terrible server problems I have finally got the blog back up. I will continue to post some of my photos and information on how the photos were taken and edited for the final image.
